DTH Platform of Doordarshan, DD Free Dish is being upgraded.

DTH Platform of Doordarshan, DD Free Dish is being upgraded on 10.01.2015 at 00.05 am (Friday midnight) from 59 channels to 64 channels of MPEG-2 DVB-S. To receive all the 64 channels, all the viewers are requested to Edit Transponder parameter by changing only the Symbol Rate from 27500 Ksps to 28500 Ksps in each TP and retune/ rescan their STB to get all TV and Radio Channels. Procedure to Edit Transponder Parameter of existing Viewers:- 1. Press “Menu” Button on Remote of DD DTH Set Top Box.

2. Select “Installation”. 3. Go to “Manual Search”. 4. Select the same satellite.
5. Do not change the satellite and TP Frequency.
6. For TP-1 and Frequency 10990 MHz, Edit/change Symbol Rate from 27500 Ksps to 28500 Ksps only. 7. Don’t change any other parameter.
8. SAVE the setting and SCAN the Set Top Box.
9. Press “Exit” Button on Remote.
10. Similarly Edit, Save and Scan the following TP to get all the TV and Tadio Channels. TP Frequency Old Symbol Rate New Symbol Rate Polarisation TP-1 10990 MHz 27500 Ksps
28500 Ksps Vertical TP-2 11070 MHz 27500 Ksps

12. Viewers/Subscribers who do not rescan as detailed above shall continue to get only 10 channels on TP 5 for a period of 7 days from the date of migration. Symbol Rate for TP 5 will remain as 27500 Ksps for these 7 days.

DD Direct Plus Coming Soon with New Face " Freedish" and 120 TV channels

Prasar Bharati, Doordarshan has new plans to launch DD Direct Plus with new brand name "Freedish" Direct to home service for India. According to Indiantelevision.com trademark has already been registered. Freedish would be launch with 61 extra new channels, so total channel would be on dd direct plus about 120 TV Channels.

Prasar Bharati has already announced tender for BIS Compliance set-top box, these set-top box would be activate from Freedish DTH customer care.

A Doordarshan official has been notify in online media news portal " IndianTelevision.com" as said that they will add more subscribers through this system. The Doordarshan official said, "We currently have 17 million active subscribers and expect to add a million subscribers per month once we start the 120 channel STB service. We are now working towards offering 120 channels free of cost for a lifetime to DTH consumers. We were unhappy with the way we were functioning. While earlier we were unorganised, the whole idea of introducing the service is to streamline the whole process.”


Although DD Direct Plus subscribers already using free to air set-top box to get 59 ku-band channels, these channels filled by online e-auction system.

At this time there is no quality / testing in current set-top box, but after launch "Freedish", subscriber will get only BISS certified set-top box can use and they will get warrantee and better equipments for better picture quality and sound.

DD has plan to broadcast other 61 channels in mpeg-4 quality, so it means old mpeg-2 cheap set-top box will not be able to receive these channels from Freedish DTH. This is new future of free to air digital TV.
